How payment links work
How customers receive a payment link, what happens when it expires, and where to see payments.
Updated 24 Oct 2026
When a customer is ready to pay, the assistant sends them a secure payment link by text message or WhatsApp. The customer taps it and pays on Stripe's hosted checkout page.
How the link is sent
- The assistant sends the link by text message or WhatsApp, to the customer it is talking to.
- The link is a short Hapro address that opens the payment page for that order.
- To send texts, your account needs messaging switched on and a number that can send texts. See Go-live checklist.
When the customer pays
Stripe tells Hapro as soon as the payment goes through. The order's status changes to Confirmed and its payment status to Paid. You can see each attempt on the Payments page and in the order's Payment attempts.
If the link expires or the customer needs a new one
- A payment page stays open for 30 minutes. If the customer comes back after that and the order is still waiting for payment, they get a fresh payment page.
- The customer can ask the assistant to send the link again. A new link replaces the old one, which stops working. To prevent misuse, a link can only be re-sent a few times an hour for the same order.
If a payment fails
The payment status shows Failed, and the customer can try again on the same order. See Order and payment statuses.
Card details
Customers type their card details on Stripe's page. They are never sent to Hapro, and the assistant never asks for them.
Refunds
There is no refund button in the Hapro dashboard at the moment. A refund you make directly in your Stripe dashboard is not shown on the order in Hapro.
